| I have a substantial 4' fence, with 1" chicken wire at the bottom, so it's not bunnies. I know there are mice in there. They picked the ripe ones, took a bite or 2 out of them, dropped them on the ground, then moved on to the others. What do you think? Mice? Squirrels? Chipmunks? Coons? or all of the above? Seems like coons would eat them all. Dangit.....they were finally ripe! |
Follow-Up Postings:

| Most likely field mice (voles). A simple test is to keep sliced apple pieces. If they are gone overnight, you definitely have voles IMO. They mostly eat bean leaves and pumpkins in my garden though. Chipmunks are also notorious for this but they target strawberries. Although voles will also eat strawberries, veggies and any fruit they can lay their teeth on. |
|
| Chipmunks for sure can do it. |
|
| squirrels, 100%. i have large fenced patio, they are the only ones that get in and climb my cherry tomato plants. i catch em red handed all the time. they are smart guys, they only go for the ripe ones, and leave the green ones alone. |

| Yep, I have to pick everything right at color break and ripen it inside if I want any for me instead of all for the rodents. |

| Thanks all. conchita.......I hadn't thought of that! I think I'll try that. Actually......I had a female cardinal hit my window (on purpose) from 6a.m.-9p.m. every day. It drove me nuts. I got my fake owl (which was in my shed with my golf cart, hoping to scare away the mice that chewed the wires)........and put it on a stick and positioned it in front of the window. Worked like a charm! I think she was more scared of it than the mice get though. Oh, yes..I was saying.........I was thinking of putting it by my cherry tomatoes, to see if that would work. |
