I had to throw in the towel, the damage was too great.

My sympathies -- I've pulled up too many squash plants this year. I've found a number of borers in each. Did you get rid of the soil around where the plants grew? If the borers get big enough they burrow into the soil where they overwinter and then come out full grown the next year to start the cycle over again.

I surgically removed 22 borers from my zucchini before composting the plants. But, I got a good harvest before doing so, and reseeded, so I'll have more before summer's end. I don't grow winter squash, and can only imagine the frustration of losing plants for the whole season.

Sorry about that. I did get one borer this year, despite being vigilant. I didn't see it but the damage was there. I think I got to it in time to save the stalk. I also had Squash Bug nymphs and squished them all up.

We've had a lot of cool wetter weather this week so I'm hoping when the sun comes back out, I get lots of nice squash flowers.
