What is my mystery plant?

This was given to me along with some tomatoes and cabbage plants by a friend who started them from seeds. He thought they might be an Asian eggplant variety but I am having my doubts about that. I could use the room for something else if it is not a desirable vegetable. Any thoughts??

Interesting. I can think of two possibilities as my eyes are not as good as they used to be.
1. A nightshade maybe Garden Huckleberry. Solanum nigrum guineense or solanum americanum
2. Thai Green Pea eggplant, Solanum torvum

From the shape of leaves, i vote for eggplant too. Probably a Thai variety.

Can we see the whole plant? And some sense of scale? Looks like black nightshade from what I can see but then I don't know anything about Asian eggplant varieties. The leaves appear ovate and images of S torvum are jagged.

Here's a photo of the whole plant. I thought eggplant had prickly leaves or stems - these are smooth. The plant is several feet high and branching out.

Hmmm, I don't know eggplants, but it doesn't look like my local black nightshade, the fruits are too large and the cluster is too big. For whatever that's worth.

it kind of looks like a pepper plant that came from really unstable seeds, cut one of the fruits open and give er a look

How big are the fruits. It's clearly a nightshade. Not familiar with thai eggplants, but the leaves don't look like any eggplant I'm familiar with.

I'm thinking garden huckleberry (which is not a huckleberry). But how large are the fruits getting?

Here is a link that might be useful: garden huckleberry images

I too am leaning towards garden huckleberry.

The foliage and flowers look exactly like sunberry/wonderberry, although your plant is clearly bigger. Definitely a solanum of some type. The images of garden huckleberry look smaller as well, I think, though I could be wrong.

Wonderberry, Sunberry, Garden Huckleberry are all names for the same plant. I tend to lean toward that one also.

I am thinking also that it is garden huckleberry now that I have info to look up. I guess I can leave the fruits go until almost fall before I use them. Now I have to look up recipes!! Thanks all!
