Tips for repotting & watering this Eggplant - container broke!

Please help~

I bought a small Rosa Bianca Eggplant, transplanted into 3 Gallon container last month. It's been getting full sun and a deep soaking by hand, every other day to every 3 days, whenever the top two inches dries out. There are some big leaves now, and it seemed to be doing great.

The terra cotta container had small cracks, and recently, a big piece of it broke, so I'm repotting it into a bigger container by Plant Spa. This pot has to be watered from below, has lots of drainage vents, and a reservoir under it. I'm not an under watering expert, it was all that was left in the size I wanted.

How should I water it when transplanting? Most tips - for traditional containers - seem to suggest watering the plant first, and putting it into moist potting soil. But this container is for watering from BELOW.

I don't want it to get waterlogged, but it already seems like the soil is drying out from the original broken container.
