I planted some ambrosia corn this year....not much because i had such a bad experience w/ it last year (a storm blew it all down!) It did wonderfully - best corn i've had in a long time...and I grew up in silver queen country...martin county, nc. Anyway...i want to plant more. Here in Richmond VA our first frost date is Oct 20 or so. Ambrosia corn is 75 days to maturity. On paper, it looks like i have time. Besides time, what other risks are there for planting corn late? More bugs I'm guessing??? thanks ya'll!

Actually, less bugs overall. The only real risk is that it doesn't mature ahead of hard frost. It just depends on the weather. A warm fall or cool fall makes all the difference. So far, all signs point to a warm fall everywhere east of teh Rockies, a continuation of the weather patterns for the past year.

Corn does not do as well as the days shorten. You may have enough calendar days, but it is a close call for quality production.
