Variety of lettuce?

I planted lettuce in my garden this year. The tagsaid eeralda lettuce, however the mature height of that species is 7.8 inches. Considering the what i have is about 2.5 feet tall, i am guessing it was tagged wrong. I can find any corresponding pictures online, and i have no idea how or when to harvest the lettuce. Can anyone help?

Well, it looks like it has long ago bolted. I would [have] harvest it when it was young, short, and tender.

It'll be inedible now. Pull and toss.

Your lettuce has bolted (went to flower). Pull it up and compost it. The leaves are most likely too bitter to eat now. You can harvest individual lettuce leaves at any size just leave the central leaves intact and it will regrow, up until it bolts. When lettuce bolts it becomes bitter. You can tell when lettuce is bolting because it will start to grow a tall central stalk like what you have.

If it's heirloom, you can collect the seeds and replant them in the Fall.
