Are lettuce and chicory related?

My overwintered "rouge d'hiver" lettuce produced nicely again this spring, then bolted and grew tall stems with sky blue flowers. Looks exactly like chicory flowers, a roadside weed in the eastern US. Has anyone else been surprised with certain types of lettuce bolting into chicory/cornflower weeds?

Lettuce and chicory are related so the fact that they have similar flowers would make sense. They both belong to the Asteraceae family. And in case you're wondering it also includes things like asters (obviously), endive, artichokes, jerusalem artichokes, sunflowers, mums, etc.
