I think they all taste the same. The biggest difference is in how long you leave them on the plant. If you let them get too large, the seeds get bigger.

Agree that it is primarily just a difference in appearance but some of the shapes lend themselves better to different types of cooking and preparation.

If you have small children who help in the garden, the 6 to 8 pound ones seem to be their choice. I have to leave one on the vine just for fun.

To me, costata romanesco zucchini is enough different from just regular old zucchini that it's almost like a different veggie -- sweet and nutty. I used to sell it for a CSA and when I stopped providing for the CSA, people begged me to at least sell them my Costata Romanesco.

Probably depends on your taste perception, but I find a real difference in taste between green and yellow varieties. I also prefer the texture of the middle eastern types to standard greens and yellows.Not much in shapes whether round or cylindrical.

I like those round yellow one, Mastero Farmerdill.

I do not have any specific example, but some taste too water with ver little flavor until they are pan fried. That is basically how I like them, pan fried.

We like the big ones sliced into thick rounds and grilled with a little oil and Italian seasonings.

I haven't grown anything but a few different varieties of green/black and haven't really noticed any difference in taste. Using up the last of my Raven seeds this year, noted last year they weren't as prolific as the "standard" (Fordhook?) green mottled one I bought as a start from greenhouse. I think my dad seeded Fordhook this year, I'll have to compare again and report back. Farmer up the road from me swears by Golden Rod.
