Squash vine borers munched on 3 of my butternut squash fruits (maybe more - I haven't checked them all). I cut off the damaged areas and got rid of the borers. (I know it looks like I cut a lot off, but there was a lot of damage.) Do you think the wounds will heal? If not, then I need to freeze them because I want to save them for the winter. Problem is that one of them (pictured) is not fully ripe yet. From past experience, they will eventually ripen inside, but obviously that won't be possible if the wounds don't heal. Any advice? Thanks,

They won't heal. And if not fully ripened, in my experience, won't store very well anyway. Freeze anything that you have doubts about is what I would do.

Those butternuts are mature and will lose their green stripes as they cure. Keep them in a warm dry place for a few weeks, then move them to a cooler place and they will last through winter. If any fruits are truly immature, they will pucker as they cure.
