Hi
I am noticing lot of holes on my beans leaves. I did not notice any bug on them. I searched bottom of the leaves also but did not find anything. Can anyone tell me how to control these unseen bugs in my garden.

You could try soapy water. Most insects hate the taste of soap and it will not hurt your plant. BUT if you wish to hurt the insect, add some rubbing alcohol to the mix. The alcohol will kill the bug but not the plant. No ID necessary. Any bug will die if it ingests an alcohol sprayed leaf.

And of course, you will wash your beans!

Or you could just ignore them and not worry about it. Plants tolerate holes in their leaves with no problem and plants all develop holes in their leaves over time from all sorts of things, not necessarily some bug.

Sometimes we just need to relax and remember that most of the bugs in a garden are good guys and that no plant or garden is ever perfect. Dragging out pesticides, especially when you don't even know what bug you may be dealing with, usually only makes thnigs worse.

All of your posts are about various bugs. Gardening is never bug free and should be fun, not a source of worry. Let your bug fixation go and just enjoy your garden.

Thanks Dave. but my actual problem is lot of bites on my gourd. some are dieing before maturing. female flowers of my squash are also dieing. Do you think too much nitrogen can burn female flowers.

I agree with Dave. Every year, Japanese beetles eat holes in my bean leaves and I always get tons and tons of beans. Maybe I would get tons and tons and tons of beans if there were no bugs, but it doesn't seem to make that much difference. IMHO, it's way too much effort to try and do something about the Japanese beetles.

All of my gourds are dying. Even if one survived, lot of holes and bites. when insect bites this gourd, it secrates the glue kind of thing and my gourds looks ugly

I thought this post was about beans, not gourds.
