I prune mine.

I used to, I don't anymore. I haven't noticed a difference.

Depends on the type (determinate or indeterminate), how you support them and how close you plant them.

Why not go over to the Growing Tomatoes forum here and read the FAQ on this question as well as all the discussions there about it.

Personally, other than removing the lower branches that would drag on the ground, I don't. I'd rather have all the tomatoes they will produce rather than sacrificing all that production..

If you do a search on the Tomato Forum you'll find probably hundreds of discussions on this topic. What it comes down to is that it's a personal preference.

Suckers are side-shoots and they produce fruit.

I grow indeterminate and prune some but not all. For me, it is mostly due to space constraints, and so that the plants don't get so unwieldy that they break my trellis. I'm also not a fan of digging through the center of big bushes to find tomatoes. I invariably miss some which end up rotting and molding in the center.

Though they will ultimately get to the top of these trellises, I try to keep them at this width:

But that's just me. I have a friend who lets his go crazy. I'm sure he gets more tomatoes off his plants than I do.

Loribee has great reasons to prune. In other words, OP, just think about the end result you're trying to achieve by removing side shoots.

I prune all suckers bellow first flower bunch. Then occasionally prune very thin, leggy ones that do not have enough sun in the middle of the bush, to make the bush reasonably dense, not overcrowded.

I see no reason to prune the cherry tomatoes.
