| This year one of the new vegetables I'm trying are cucumbers and they are doing great. I have already picked 4 from the vine and have 4 more that are starting to grow. These are Straight Eight cucumbers and I have 4 plants against the fence with my roses which faces South east. The largest cucumber is 11". How big can the Straight eight grow?

So pretty growing among the flowers there. Lordy, what do you do with a cucumber that large? Slice and eat? As someone perpetually trying to lose weight, I use cucumbers in place of crackers. That would make some pretty hefty crackers!

Loribee, I use radishes for chips. Nick, those are awesome !

Deeby, I've never tried radishes. I'd love an excuse to grow them.

I slice them and lightly sea salt. All the flavor, crunch, and saltiness and no carbs. Great with a sandwich.

I have found that if you make pickles with any cucumber whatsoever, cut up in any way whatsoever, people will claim you are a culinary genius. This is a great freedom!

Nick, how was the flavor? Sure great for the first planting.

It tasted great, much better then the grocery bought ones. I did nothing special, just fertilizer some compost and watering once a week.
