Question about eggplant

I planted an eggplant from a small pot a couple of weeks ago. It's over a foot high. It looks fine, but doesn't have any flowers on it yet. Is it too late in the season to expect it to produce anything, or is there still time? Incidentally, it's supposed to produce small, thin eggplants, not the larger ones. Thanks for any info.

Probability is good. You have until late October, so if it blooms this month you should be good to go.

I also planted these, Japanese Eggplant, for the first time this year, and they were about 18 inches tall before they bloomed. They began setting fruit, and have kept growing. Now at about 30 inches, and setting fruit quite well. From my three plants I get several fruit per week.

My first time with the Japanese eggplant. How big are they supposed to get?

Give it some more time. Once it gets started, it can be very productive.

I love eggplants. I have them growing in several different stages. I transplanted some just this week and have some planted over the last 4 weeks. I have some planted in spring, already been bearing fruit. I am in Dallas and I know there is plenty of time for fruiting. They won't flower until they are at least a month from transplanting. Depending upon the variety, may be even later. The heat we have had been good for at least this one crop.

This is my first year to grow eggplant. The bush is large and has a lot of flowers, but so far only two fruits. I think it's called Black Beauty. I hope it will give me some more before summer ends.

Sharonie: This is my first year with Japanese eggplant as well, so I don't know how big they SHOULD get. I have been cutting them at 6-8 inches, mostly to stay ahead of them and not let them escape me like zuchinni. We have been eating them on grilled paninni sandwich and they are lovely! Fry lightly in bacon grease, assemble sandwich, and grill.

Japanese eggplant comes in all shapes and sizes. Most vendors will note the sizes expected. But you do need to know which specific variety you have.
