I have a couple of Baron red beauty peppers that are not turning red. I add one grow last month but after two weeks of no further growth it never turned red. I finally just picked it to promote further growth. Do I need to just be patient or maybe it was just labelled wrong? Or is there a way to encourage a change in colour?

Patience: most folks use green bells, so the ability to hold for a long time is desirable. There a few varieties that color within two weeks after getting full growth, but this is not one of them. It does not take forever,it just seems that way.

UPDATE: I've gotten a ton a peppers but only two peppers out of six plants have turned red. They only started to turn red this week. Are there other varieties that turn red sooner? Does being in full sun help with turning red?

I planted 2 red Bell pepper plants and though they've done well in producing medium size peppers, none have turned red while on the plants. My plants are in full sun. What I've just discovered is that they turn red within a few days after removing and leaving on the kitchen counter.

Hmm interesting. So they're like tomatoes, where they're eventually turn red if you leave them on the counter? I read somewhere that it doesn't work for some varieties.

There are quick ripening red varieties like King Arthur ( use to be Fat'N Sassy) Ace, Bell Boy, Lady Bell, Merlin, La Bamba, Redknight. Still takes patience tho and temps in the 80's. At cool temps 50's- 60's none of them will ripen. Like tomatoes there are green when ripe varieties. Not popular tho. some varieties are yellow or orange when ripe.

Bell peppers just don't ripen red as easily as other shapes of peppers, probably because of the thick walls. In Ohio, bell peppers are really lousy at ripening in the summer heat. Now in September with sunny warm days and cool (but not too cold) nights, the peppers ripen the best. Then it turns too cold in October.
