Thanks Donna, that's what I was thinking too. I have some old seed from Spaghetti Squash, but I didn't think I sowed any this season. [g] Happy to see it growing so well though. I see five fruit on the vine so far.

It could be a spaghetti squash if you purposely planted it or it could be a spaghetti squash crossed with something else if it was a volunteer. I've never grown them so don't know if it's the right color.

Spaghetti squash are Cucurbita pepo.

Jack o'lantern pumpkins are Cucurbita pepo.

Generally, summer squash are Cucurbita pepo and will apparently cross with pumpkins with wild abandon! The results may not resemble either and may be something you have a difficult time recognizing. It won't mean that they are inedible, however. Harvest and use while they are young.

I'm pretty confused about where this plant came from. I just looked through my basket that I've been keeping all the seed packets in this season and there is no spaghetti squash seed that managed to get in the basket by mistake. The only squash seed I bought this year, was Butterbush Butternut squash and Costata Romanesca that are growing in other beds and look nothing like this plant and fruit.

I've never had a squash left to set seed in the garden. The only thing I can think of, is if we used grocery store spaghetti squash and buried the remains of one in the garden bed?

So, the mystery squash, should be eaten young, but it's really white. I'm wondering if it's supposed to turn yellow before it ripens?

Sure. squash seeds put into compost piles with rinds, etc. are notorious for coming up everywhere. Pick it, eat it, and then either keep it or get rid of it. As we say here, It's Lagniappe. (a little something extra for nothing.)

Interesting word, Donna, I had to look it up. [g] From the Louisiana French and pronounced 'Lan-yap'. I would have been calling it 'Lag-niap-pe' LOL

I think that is what must have happened. I am going to keep my eye on it to see what color starts to develop, but actually, it appears that the small beginning squashes appear more yellow and get whiter as they grow bigger. Odd. So no way to know when it is ready to eat I guess.

It is a vining squash so I would treat it as a winter squash. Wait untile it matures at which time the rind will be hard and it will probably change color, the try it for quality.

Thanks Farmerdill, I'll keep my eye on it then. It would be so nice if it turned out to be tasty because it sure grew easily with no disease or pest problems so far and it's pushing out a lot of fruit.
