So geez, I have some nice big honeydews, maturing well. I go out today and see that one has been chewed on. A squirrel, no doubt. It excavated a one-inch diameter area to a depth of half an inch. So what is my strategy to save that melon? Leave it alone? Will the excavated area attract bugs? Some sealant? Paint? Glue some plastic wrap bandage over the wound? I've now put small paper bags over all my melons to discourage the pests.

Seriously, a swab of varnish will probably dry hard before it penetrates the melon.
