| Hey everyone! A friend of mine asked me today what the heck was growing in her garden. She thought possibly a watermelon, but the leaves look nothing like any watermelon I've ever seen before...so I'm thinking a squash of some sort. I never grow the things, so I really have no idea...anybody else have a thought? |

| It is the color of my zucchini but the shape of my spaghetti squash. I couldn't say if it is summer squash or winter squash. Are there anymore growing maybe a picture of an immature one would help. I hope you find out what it is. ~Tina |

| "...what the heck was growing in her garden." Squash volunteers often are from accidental crosses, in which case they can't be identified. It can be fun to grow them out just to see what results from the cross. Jim |

| I would agree that it is far more likely to be some sort of accidental cross-pollinated 'thing' rather than any known squash variety. Especially since it is apparently a volunteer rather than something she intentionally planted. Dave |

| Well that explains it for me. Last year I had what was shaped like a spaghetti squash but had a pattern on the outside resembling a hubbard. i as both and some other varieties in the same squash patch. Thought i'd gotten a random mystery seed or simething. Didn't know I could get a mix from cross pollination. Tasted pretty good as I recall :) |

| Only the seeds are affected by cross-pollination, not the fruit in this season. You only see weird fruit if you save seeds that have crossed and plant them the following year. So if you had a weirdo then it was from a random crossed seed. Dave |
