Small zucchini

I have two zucchini plant that are producing, but the zucchini only get about 3" long at the most and then stop growing. I have been waiting a week and still no difference. They get full sun and the weather has been hot. I water regularly. These things should grow like crazy with little care and I can't even get one big enough for dinner. Anything I should know about soil/fertilizer for better luck next year?

Do they stop growing or stop growing and start to rot on the vine? If it's the latter, it's probably a fertilization problem.

Fertilization, as suggested above, refers to incomplete pollination.

No, not rotting. I have seen that other years and know it's a pollination problem. They just stop growing, turn dark green like they should but that's it.
