I have alot of tree frogs on my property. I've never seen them in the garden though. He'll probably end up back on your porch. You'll know its a a tree frog when it "sings". I can't believe such a little thing can make such a loud noise! They also have knobby toes.
Mine started showing up after I put in several stocktank ponds in the back yard. Their sounds at night can be deafening......but I love it!

I hadn`t seen any in awhile but I could sure hear them sing when it rained at my house. LOL!

I have heard that they will stay around and eat garden bugs if you have a source of water nearby. Thought about how to come up with that so it would be happy. I would love for the frog to eat the MBB which are showing up about now.....:(.

LOL catherinet. We have tons of woods around us, even more tree frogs and while yes the noise can be deafening and we also love it I am SO happy to hear someone else has them sneak up and hide out on the porch too. It drives my hubby crazy. He will actually go out and hunt the "one" on the porch down to move him back to a tree somewhere when there are literally hundrededs of them going in the woods all around.

We also have a pond very near our porch, but I never thought that was what brought them, it has been here since my MIL put it in almost 30 years ago.

I took this pic yesterday morning, and he was still there in the evening when I checked. He picked the wrong plant if he wants camouflage.

I have some (or at least one) in my garden. I tried to catch him just so I could look at him closer but he jumped between leaves before I could.
