I saw my first stink bugs today on the sweet corn. I have 4 more crops to bring in over the next 45 days. In past years by late august the stink bugs have essentially destroyed the corn. Has anyone tried mesh bags over each ear? I've found several type of bags - cloth, breathable, with tie strings. Would love to hear advice and experience. Thanks Scott

Bagging each ear sounds like a lot of work but at first sign of them and if you have a hose available take a hose end sprayer they are pretty cheap and mix a soap solution mine has graduated marks I put 22 oz. water and 2oz. dish soap and spray them it doesn't keep them off but the soap will kill them it won't affect the eggs either so you may have to do it several times , watch to see when they are most active probably 10am -4 pm do it several times the first two days. I use this method to control squash bugs same family ,You might try a milder mix on the corn since you'll be eating it soon I use what's on sale " Gain " this year Lemon scent you can also get insecticidal soap at a garden store, You don't have to drown them with it just wet them with it and they may start dropping to the ground so wet that last to get the ones trying to get away. Good Luck

Will try the soap on a section of the patch. Last year my august corn was ruined by 1000's of the bugs. Thanks

I have placed footies [stretchable nylons] over ears to keep birds out.
