I've seen these bugs for years now on all of my cucurbits plants (watermelon, squash, cucumber, etc.). They are not really a big deal because they eat so little and apparently they reproduce very slowly. I would just like to know what they are. I know they're not lady bugs because lady bugs don't chew leaves to my knowledge at least. Also they are orange in color and not red. Anybody know what these are?

This is a case of an innocent beetle being accused of a crime, lol. That's an Asiatic ladybeetle, rather unwelcome due to the fact that they try to overwinter in our homes (and succeed) but they are strictly carnivorous. Something else is munching on your plants.q

The Asian ladybugs are certainly carnivorous, but I wouldn't quite call them innocent... they've tried to take a bite out of me more than once. That was, in fact, how they first announced their presence in my garden. They bite hard, it really gets your attention. They are also really aggressive aphid killers, though, so occasional bites aside, I consider myself fortunate to have them in my area.

Ok I know you say these are Asian beetle but I don't think so. The reason being is because I have plenty of these around all of my plants and I still have a pretty bad aphid problem. Plus I looked up an Asian beetle and they look totally different. Look at this picture close up of the bug and tell me what you think?

Here's the picture.

I don't see another picture. Look up pictures of our native Convergent ladybug to see if that's what you might have. Lady beetles come in a variety of colors. The convergent species is quite orange. Unless I see a different picture that changes my mind, I still think that you've shown us a ladybug. And they don't chew leaves, so I think that something else might be sneaking in to do that. If you do take another picture, please show the front of the beetle, especially the pronotum, which is the shield covering the thorax just behind the head. A very identifying feature.
