you picture doesnt work

Cant see the picture but if it looks like short corn w/ a brown tassly thing on the top it's sorghum. It's sued for making molasses...google a picture of it and see if they look the same.

Is that cold hardy sugar cane? Looks like it could well be.

Very difficult to say from this distance. It could be water starved corn that was planted in clumps. My guess would be sorghum, altho I have no idea why one would plant it in that configeration.

It is not corn and its not sorghum. Someone said they thought it could be sugar cane which refreshed my memory. Thank you!

Any thing is possible, but it does not resemble sugar cane nor is sugar cane normally grown that far north.

Sudan grass?

We had something called "Cold Hardy Sugarcane" come in at a nursery I worked in a few years ago. I have no idea of the botanical name, however it was hardy all of zone 7 (according to the label). Someone locally supplied it, and I have not seen it again.

I'd like to find that.

Commenting from a postition of complete ignorance.... but could it be Miscanthus? Grown in the UK for various purposes.

It could be sudex -- a sudan grass/sorghum seed sterile hybrid grown for biomass and forage. Makes a huge cover crop.
