They don't show any sign of the disease anymore, and grew new leaves. I gave them some fast acting fertilizer, and boom, bonus October Zucchini! What gives... are the nighttime temps in the low 50's too cold for PM? Or did they develop some kind of plant antibodies or something? The SVB failed to take these guys down too... only about half of my cucurbits were ultimately taken down by the SVB.. it took a long time and was not the sudden, early, tragic death I read about on these forums, I got a good of harvest from everything they went in to. And I am sure it's SVB, I saw them inside. I'm sure next year will be worse though, with them overwintering in my soil.

Peter, you should post your zone so we can figure out just how jealous we should be of October zucchini! I tried for fall zucchini again this year -- it never has worked and this year was no exception. However, I did have a lovely harvest of male flowers from the zucchini and butternut plants yesterday, for the most delicious battered/fried flowers ever :)

I changed my zone on here... it should be posting. Maybe I need to reload cookies or something. It's Zone 6b :) I gave them Miracle Gro Rose Food... not exactly organic, but they loved it, plenty of new flowers on them when they hadn't had any in weeks.

Yeah, sometimes I feel like I should stop being such a stickler about organic fertilizer and give some plants (like potatoes) a nice fat boost!
|
As the msds states it is practically non-toxic (that's an actual quote), and that health injuries are not known or expected under normal use, and that it is inherently biodegradable and does not accumulate, I'd say it has a higher safety profile than many organic products. Of course, it can never replace adding rich organic matter to the soil.

I have a couple zucchini that were powdery, but they too have some fresh green leaves...especially one of them AND it is without a new fertilizer boost.
