| I planted big max June 6th. I got 4 plants and three viable pumpkins. The vines started dying early about three weeks ago. One pumpkin started rotting at softball size. One turned orange and vine died back at mini basketball size. I picked that one and cured it, and let the final basketball sized continue to grow as the vine still looked ok.
I ended up picking my third and final one this morning as the leaves had begun to develop mold. It weighed in at just 7 lbs. Here is what I think I did wrong.
All in all a learning experience! I plan to try again next year! Share your pumpkin results. I would love to read them! |

| Cutie patutie! We tried some giant pumpkins a couple of years ago. What we did was get some aged horse manure, placed a gopher cage (about1 ft across and about 1 ft deep) on the ground, filled the gopher cage with regular soil (I think we may have lined it with newspaper so the soil wouldn't leak out), hilled the HM around the cages with a valley at the top for watering purposes, planted the seeds in pots so we knew which direction the vines would go ( the vine goes the direction that the 3rd leaf points), then planted and set up a watering system. We got one good one from each plant . From 100-350 lbs! DH is a professional pumpkin carver, so it was double fun to grow our own! Nancy |

| Wow that sounds like quite a system! I planted mine as an after thought, I was definitely not very educated in what pumpkins need to thrive. I have learned a lot since then! I'm excited for next year! |

| Can't give you my experience yet, it's still growing! Not sure of the weight yet, but it's still growing. It might get to the size of a Basketball at the end of the week. |

| Beautiful picture! My pumpkin growing experience was similar. Planting them was an afterthought. Four of them came up. The leaves on three of them slowly turned yellow and died, so nothing from them. On the fourth, only one pumpkin has made it to maturity. Or- near maturity. It isn't quite done yet. It is a bit smaller than the one you have pictured. And my daughter is a bit bigger than the one you have pictured :) Better luck to us all next year! |
