Sweet Potato Watering

Hello,

I have some sweet potato slips that seem to be growing ok at the moment. I have a drip irrigation system, will the slips produce tubers when they are receiving water this way or does the surrounding area need to be deeply watered and sprayed with a hose.

If the drip outlets are placed properly and the amount of water released is ok, they should grow ok. If the plants are severely short of water in hot weather, they will wilt some. Too much water will encourage scurf or other fungal diseases.

I suggest digging your hand into the area of the hills to check on moisture levels.

generally speaking, sweet potatoes like water. Slips will thrive for a long time in a gallon jug of water as long as they have warmth and sunlight.

They will like a thorough soaking every once in a while. But waterlogged soils, not good. Drip irrigation is good.

SP vines are quick to wilt, but quick to recover.
