| Yesterday my wife called and said that her cousins were coming by for supper, unexpectedly. One of them is a vegetarian, so I threw some green beans and potatoes in the pressure cooker. Sliced up some fresh tomatoes, peppers, and stuff.
I went to the garden to see if I had a decent cucumber, I thought they were pretty much done. I found one that had attached to one of my tomato cages and it was 18" long and about 2" in diameter. It had started turning yellow. I brought it in for show and tell. I told her (the vegetarian) that I'm sorry that I didn't have a decent cucumber. She looked on the counter and said whats wrong with that one? I said it's too big. She said no it's fine, so I peeled and sliced it. She ate the whole thing! LOL

| My brother always says the worst homegrown tomato is better than the best store bought one. Personally, I think the same is true of cucumbers. Maybe she thinks so too. |
| It gets worse. Usually our tomatoes die in early october, and the green ones get to sit on the counter while they turn color. In early November, these October tomatoes picked green still taste better than those trucked in from the Rio Grande Valley, which were picked only one week before while red. |

| Not to speak for other Vegetarians but, I'm always getting odd responses...like "strange"! My personal philosophy is to not eat anything that takes care of it's own. HOWEVER, I buy and cook meat for my dog. I just kind of think that her personal philosophy would be meat, meat and more meat! |
| I agree Donna and glib! Good one Edymnion ! I'm proud of you petpalikali, the dog needs meat to be healthy. The folks that think that is strange need to read a little. Dogs and cats don't do very well on non-meat diets. |
| dunno how that would make the person strange? no thing really of anything being too big to eat look at zucchinis, so long as she enjoyed is all. people choose not to eat meat for lots of reasons, let them be. oh! no i'm not a vegetarian. len |

| In conclusion, vegetarians are not strange people. I (a rather omnivorous chap) and many others will still eat the overgrown cuke or green tomato, so long as it is from the garden, rather than anything from the store. |
| Maybe y'all missed the wink at the end? I was kidding when I said they are "strange"! I really like the veggie woman, she is a fun person! I love cukes, but they don't love me. If I had ate that big one I wouldn't have slept for 2 days! I only grow them for my wife and whomever wants some. |
| we had to eat the big cucumbers when I was a kid, so we would remember to look harder to find them when their were still small. My Father let his cukes run on the ground like water melons. |

| Hello Jolj, the cucumbers bother you? If burping and belching is the problem then you should try the Armenian cucumber/Indian cucumber or the Prussian. they are totally burpless and easily digested. |
| I'm the one with the problems ju1234 not jolj! LOL I'll look them up and get some seed for next year. Any suggestions or would you like to make a trade if you have seed? Ted |
