Ornamental Corn...Now What?

So, I've had an absolute blast growing ornamental corn this year...now what do I do? Do I pull off the cobs now that the silks are brown like it says in my book? Do I leave it on the stalks to dry? I don't want the squirrels to eat it before my family and friends can use it for decoration. Help!

If the shucks are fully dry, you can snap the ears off leaving most of the shucks attached. Pull back the shucks and tie them tightly. Let them dry further indoors and you can spray them with clear sealer if you wish.

Thanks Wayne for your response! I'm assuming the shuck is the stuff covering the cob? And dang, we just got a whole ton of rain. Guess I have to cross my fingers that the squirrels don't realize what I have in my garden!!!

The shuck is the tan/white covering over the ears. This can be left on to hang them with.
