Try using tulle. If you do a search here you'll find old posts about using tulle as an insect barrier. (I haven't tried it yet)

Our best gardener in southwest Texas uses row cover all year long. Our summer highs are low 90s with blazing sun. He actually uses two layers and for most things it sets right on the plants. I've got kohlrabi seedlings started under two layers now. These were plants I bought in a six pack and pulled apart before planting. They are doing well in 90F heat.

I bought tule for .70 per yard a couple of weeks ago and I guess I shouldn't have used tacks, but it tore and blew off every time!
It's still pretty much full sun with it on, however. I'm going to try a very light fabric I have (actually, some curtain panels) and see how the water gets through it.
Of course I planted the winter stuff, and all of a sudden we have 3 days of 100*! We'll see!

Yes. If the purpose of row cover is to keep the insects away, tulle is an option. It is inexpensive, light and water pass through it ,it is light weight and easy to use. Just use 'U" pins to hold it down.

I use agribon AR-19 in the winter for frost protection and all summer long to protect various crops from insects.
If you don't need it for cold protection, you could get the lighter weight AR-15 and just use it in the summer.
I don't bother with U pins, just bury the edges with dirt every 10 ft. and it won't tear that way.

I use row covers all season also. I mostly use medium weight, just lay it over the plants, and it's fine for most plants with temps in the 90s. Don't know how I gardened organically without it.

question to tulle users--does tulle keep out flea beetles?

Well like I said, I haven't tried using tulle. I was just giving a suggestion based on old posts.

The last two links say that using tulle keeps out flea beetles.

French or Nylon tulle comes in many shades of color and tightness.Tighter ones can keep all insects out, even mosquitoes. So you wouldn't want to cover cucurbita with it because you need pollinators.
