Nice picture! That is pretty rare. It will be interesting to see how many ears are eatable size. Your corn looks good and not overly crowded. That makes the chances of several nice size ears a real possibility, something some never learn.

I noticed an unusual corn plant down the road at the very corner of the field. This stalk is about 10 feet high and one of the ears has a tassel on the ear.

The central ones seem pretty normal. I picked and opened one bunch, just out of curiosity. The secondary ears seem to be fully pollinated, but are behind the central ear maturity-wise. We'll see if they're worth the effort to process once they're ready to harvest, I suppose. When it's time to pick, I'll try to do a tally of all the strange ones.

Fruitnut, spacing is 12" between plants and 24" between rows. :)

So many weird things can happen with corn. I have several times had entirely naked ears form, for example.

@ pnbrown : That happened to me too. The outside of the corn ear looked nice and pretty, even the silk dried to a very dark color. I picked it thinking it had matured enough just to find the whole ear was not filled with even a single seed.

Ceth, I mean an ear with no husk but with kernels - usually with kernels only on one side and a misshapen ear. It's pretty strange to see, the silk and the kernels but no husk.
