My carrots are always short and very very hairy.
What am I doing wrong?
They have a gazillion small hair roots all over. Is that normal?

Thanks

It's normal for carrots given too much nitrogen fertilizer.

Probably too much nitrogen. Also, look up asters yellow - a disease. And root knot nematodes can cause gnarly roots as well. I had quite a few short carrots, some gnarly, and a few very hairy in a bed I've been growing carrots in for a few years. I think I going to grow peas in the bed next spring, and then let it rest for the season.

Depends on the variety. Some varieties are very short.

My carrots did real well thins year. In a 10" deep raised bed. I grew some "tenderstax" and "Short & sweet". The Tendersnax were really good.
