| My carrots are always short and very very hairy.
What am I doing wrong? They have a gazillion small hair roots all over. Is that normal? Thanks |

| It's normal for carrots given too much nitrogen fertilizer. |

| Probably too much nitrogen. Also, look up asters yellow - a disease. And root knot nematodes can cause gnarly roots as well. I had quite a few short carrots, some gnarly, and a few very hairy in a bed I've been growing carrots in for a few years. I think I going to grow peas in the bed next spring, and then let it rest for the season. |

| Depends on the variety. Some varieties are very short. |

| My carrots did real well thins year. In a 10" deep raised bed. I grew some "tenderstax" and "Short & sweet". The Tendersnax were really good. |
