Yes we rule! Well, at least we are lucky, I would even say spoiled.

My zone 9 is cooler than normal this year, so my peppers and eggplants have not done peak production yet. I am still getting tomatoes, but they slowed down a bit.

I have my brassicas sprouted in little pots. Several types of cauliflower, broccoli, I am even trying cabbage this year. They will not be transplanted for a while, since first I need to decide which tomatoes have stopped producing. I have limited space you see.

This weekend I plan to direct sow some chickpeas, onion seeds (yellow, red, white, and walking onions). Also a good time to sow carrot and beets around here.

In the next 4-8 weeks I will be sowing peas, favas, lettuces and radicchio. Oh yes, and potatoes, the Irish type.

An then about half of my garden will sprout itself. Volunteer winter crops thrive here, since I let vegetables seed. I save some of it, and some of it gets inevitably spread around by gravity, the wind, my dogs, insects, birds....So I will get lettuces, radishes, mustards, collards, kale, cilantro, chard, parsley, onions, all spontaneously grown. Free is good too.

I live in the Mojave desert, and it's still somewhat hot out, 90 degrees. 2 weeks ago I planted peas, carrots, and some more cucumbers. Yesterday I planted my lettuce seeds. My pumpkins (planted in June) are starting to flower finally, and 30 pumpkin plants are taking over my backyard! Hopefully I'll get some pumpkins in time for Halloween!

Everything is germinating and sprouting like crazy due to the hot weather (peas are already 3" tall!)...but I'm worried it'll be too hot and fry the plants if it doesn't cool down soon. My garden only gets 5 hours of sun each day, but I put a little shade cloth over it until the temps cool down.

Luckily I don't have to worry about weeds, the summer heat killed them all!

Here in Mesa its 105 today and supposed to be 109 the next two days. Temps are expected to be over 100 for awhile yet.

On the 13th of Sept I planted three rows of Fava Beans and 750 Leeks seeds. In just four days both are popping up above the soil.

This winter I will be having roasted Leek and Potato soup with Fava Beans. Yum Yum Yum.
