How long can I grow broccoli seedlings in a tray?

I started my broccoli seedlings indoors about a week and a half ago. they are already about 3 or so inches tall with only the two first leaves (no true leaves yet). I read that they should be indoors for about 6 weeks, but, I am concerned for the amount of room they have in the seedling trays. They are already fragile and bending over.

You're running a bit late. It's best to start them from seed in July or early August. However, you should be alright as far south as you live, it just may be later in the year that you have broccoli to eat. When you see roots through the bottom holes of the pot, OR the plants have four leaves, whichever comes first, pot them up into a bigger pot or just go ahead and set them in the ground. It needs to be good, loose, fertile ground. Broccoli likes plenty of food. It's a good idea to mulch the plants well and to cover them with row cover to keep pests away from them. (This is true of all brassicas.) Chances are good you can harvest all winter.

I think they are reaching for light. Do you just have them on the window sill?

Broccoli looking fragile and bending over is a fairly standard practice from my experience. I would suggest if possible to move the trays outside under your house overhang so that they can get a half day of direct sunlight.

Yes - I agree with Donna.in.Sask. If they are 3 inches tall and still only have seed leaves they are etiolated. They need more light and probably less warmth. When you plant them out it is OK to plant deeper than in the trays. That helps support the stems which will produce roots.
