Wow! Your garden must be pretty big to get all those melons. I only harvested seven from two vines this year!

How much did you grow to get that many? What kind are they?

I have been trying to decide what kind of watermelon I want to grow for next year. Last year we grew sugar baby watermelons. They were doing really well until our yard flooded and they all rotted. We were so disappointed. But I think we got rid of the flooding problem this year, for the most part anyhow. So we were thinking of trying melons again next year.

Wow! I have watermelon envy. Love the cutie in the center too! My melons were a bust this year. I think our season was just too cold and too wet. I only had a total three melons on 6 plants. One I picked too soon. The other two must have had the seeds cross with a cucumber or something. They were oblong with a bulb at one end. Ate them anyway! They tasted like a slightly sweet cucumber.

I'm curious as to what kind of watermelons you grew too.

Boo--I had the same issue you did weather-wise (but then we are practically neighbors).

I had 3 melons off of 9 plants--would have had 12 but a #$%^ rabbit got them first. I am definitely in Mr. MacGregor's camp from now on--peter rabbit is no longer cute to me :D

Sorry for the slow response but have been very busy. Thanks for the replies. I think I had about 12 vines of assorted varieties and the vines got so entangled i could not tell what was what but I do believe that the black plastic was a plus in the outcome. I did not have one weed all year in the melon patch and the temperature of the soil was very warm. It was the first time growing melons and I think i did ok thanks to the info I got from this source. thanks to everyone who has posted info on growing melons.
