What is this?

In the back of my garden, I have a somewhat lazy compost pile. I have been burrying my garden clippings such as peelings, cores etc from veggies , peach pits and who knows what else. I went up there today to burry a bucketful of apple waste from applesauce. I found these plants growing out of the pile. They are about 10" tall. i didnt want to disturb them till i figured out what they were so I burried the apple beside them. Does anyone have an idea what they are?

Could they be potatoes? The leaves are similar.

Definetly potatoes, probably from potato peelings you've thrown in ya compost, if ya leave the plants till they die back you'll have a nice feed of new spuds

I'd cover them when you get frost warnings and see what happens. If they get killed, put some straw or leaves over them and they'll come up in the spring.
