Wow! That is a beautiful set-up. The wheels are churning in my head already to make a set-up next year like it. The lettuce survives the whole winter (if you don't eat it all, that is)?

The lettuce will continue to grow for the next few weeks and probably 'survive' until christmas. However it becomes pretty much a staple for the family. A little olive oil and balsamic vinegar..tender and delicious.

With the cost of iceberg lettuce about $1 per head this makes even more sense...

Pondering on how easy it was to construct If in had say put up three with carrots, broccoli, etc I would have a really nice second spring crop.

Looks Great! This year we tried a fabric covered low tunnel which worked out great. Beans planted in early May germinated well despite cold/wet here in NH. We are now eating a fall crop planted 7/29 and picking sugar snap peas.

My husband has promised to make more low tunnels but we need to try some plastic ones. I bought both of Eliot Coleman's books.

Why did you choose that roof style? Supposedly the rounded roofs are strong enough to withstand snow.

While the rounded roof wil hold snow I want to shed any snow as soon as possible thus my cape cod style roof. Of course this is only relevant in the spring and fall -in the heart of the winter there just isn't enough sunlight for vegetables to grow.

Yeah, I love the look of your lettuce. Mine is a much smaller amount planted, and has a lot more space between the plants.
