Bought 50 purple asparagus roots from one of the major mail-order places this summer. Hardly any looked good and only about 15 ever ended up surfacing. They were good about refunding, but there we were with a whole prepared bed and no asparagus. The local co-op is doing their end-of-season discounting, and we got 20 Jersey male roots for $8. They all came right up. I would like to get 40 more and plant a 2nd bed in the spring. What is the best way to winter over these roots to keep them alive until then?
