Best early muskmelons?

What's your favorite early muskmelon?

I tired Fastbreak this year, but I wasn't impressed. To me, it didn't have much flavor. Compared to my favorite main season melon, Ambrosia, it didn't have any flavor!

Never tried an early that had much flavor. Alaska is about the best that I tried but it is not great for flavor. Lots of folks like Minnesota Midget. Sweet Granite also fits in the 70 day class. Halona is a few days later but still fits in the early class.

Thanks Farmerdill!

It might not be worth the effort for something with no taste, but I'm not ready to give up on the early melons yet. I'll try one or two of your suggestions next year.

If you're talking muskmelon and not just cantaloupe, I suggest one of the galia types (I grow "Visa"). They have a yellowish exterior and green flesh which is super sweet and tops the brix charts. In my field the galia mature easily 2 weeks earlier than my first cantaloupe ("tuscan").

I would like to grow melons next year, I tried a regular Crenshaw this year but it just grew too slowly and the weather wasn't very cooperative. The pumpkins were turning orange and I had one tiny melon. Any other recommendations for next year? I will check out the Galia ones, thanks for the suggestion.

Galia's have flavor more like Honeydews and are my favorite type of melon. Passport is the earliest variety that I am aware of several days earlier than Visa. 75 day Maturity is about as fast as they get. An option is the Earli-dew honeydew melon at 80 days. The Alaska muskmelon has a 65 day DTM.
