| I'm working up a blend for amending my garden. I got my soil test and I averaged the recommendations for each crop to give me a general guide for adding fertilizers and lime. I have a 60 x 120 garden which works out to 7200sf. My recommendations were: Lime 1000lbs/acre I figured it out to Lime 169 lbs/7200sf I have Ammonium Nitrate 34-0-0 Super Triple Phosphate 0-46-0 and Muriate of Potash 0-0-60 so..... 85lbs 34-0-0 Also, should I apply this all at once or should I do it in two applications 6 months or so apart? |

| rrlesb, Your math looks correct to me. Several split applications over time would be a good idea. |
| Did the soil test also tell you to add the last 3 ingredients or were they recommended to be added at a later date. Soil tests tell what is needed for specific crops, not for a mixture of crops to be intermingled. I suggest you call, whoever did the soil test and advise them of your plan, and get their advice, before you have a possible mess on your hands. |

| Math sounds good but I definitely would not apply all those fertilizers in one application or even one year. |
| Rayrose, The test was listed for specific crops, but had a range of amounts needed. Nitrogen was a high of 200lbs an acre to as low as 100lbs for beans. Same with P and K. I just found a happy medium since I do a fairly intense rotation throughout the year in addition to cover cropping. |

| By the way, lime should not be applied with ammonium nitrate. Apply and incorporate the lime first, wait a couple of weeks and then add the fertilizers. |
| The test is crop specific and there is no happy medium in mixing crops and ammendments. Furthermore, everything is not applied at one time. You're taking a lot for granted and I'm afraid you're in for a big disappoinment and mess. |
| Next time you have a soil test done, tell them it's for a home garden. That way, the math will be much simpler as it's based on 1000 sq foot areas. |
| I had the commercial test done because they don't give organic matter for the home test. |
