Curing sweet potatoes in the basement

Hi All,

Just harvested 11 pounds of sweet potatoes from one earthbox! I'm thrilled! I've tried growing them in the garden before but the bunnies and voles killed them off. I was given three slips this spring and figured what the heck. So, I know they need to be cured at 80Ã¯Â¿Â½F and high humidity to bring out the sweetness. After thinking about it, can I but them in a covered container and set them on my seed starting mat? I got a big honking one as a present one year. Any thoughts??

BTW, the container (empty but with two earthbox grates) on the seed starting mat with a damp microfiber towel is holding 87ÃÂ°F with 70% humidity with the lid ajar. Think this is going to work! Sweet potato still have moist soil so going to let them dry off before transferring them...

I have mine a few feet from the wood stove, and I lightly dampen the towel over them once a day. Mine are dirty, too. I wait until they are cured and I'm ready to cook to clean them.

Hi all,

Here's what I'm using to cure the sweet potatoes. The container is sitting on a seed starting heat mat. I've got a wet towel for humidity. Temp around 83ÃÂ°F.
