wire worms in carrots

No matter what we try (latest was diatomaceous earth), we have not been able to control wire worms in our carrots. We have well drained sandy loam. We can usually amputate the worst parts and use the rest of the carrot, but it's annoying and wasteful.

Does anybody have a solution, preferably organic, that can help with this?
