Growing Vegetables Indoors

I live in Upstate New York and I've been reading a lot of things claiming that you can grow root vegetables such as potatoes and carrots indoors. I was wondering if anybody has tried to do this before and how successful they were in doing it. Is it simple or require lots of work?

I just want to get an idea if this is something I should try this upcoming winter.

RE: Growing Vegetables Indoors

Leafy vegetables like leafy greens - kale , lettuce, and such, yes. Root vegetables usually won't form the vegetable IME but the leafy greens of beets can still be eaten. Temperature and supplemental lighting of a broad spectrum would be needed unless you have a greenhouse.

I'd be curious to read the info you have found on growing root vegetables indoors and the tips and techniques they give to make it work. Can you post links?

A couple of recent discussions on the questions you might want to read:
