| Hello gardener friends! I know that growing spinach in the home garden isn't really an ideal way to cultivate it since it takes dozens of plants to get a good single meal, but, I figure I could mix it in with my salad greens. Anyway, as the title questions, is it remotely possible to grow spinach in Savannah, GA? I've tried for years and have had little to no result and I'm it's from our lack of extensive cold weather. As an example, it's 77 degrees here today, and nearing mid December, and the rest of the week will be in the low to mid 60's. Any suggestions? I do grow malabar spinach and amaranth but would prefer not to due to their invasive nature. We also grow swiss chard as well. If spinach just isn't an option here, besides swiss chard and malabar spinach, are there other greens we could try? Thanks! :) |

I don't know about Savannah. I do grow Spinach here in Augusta. Have to plant in February. Have no luck with fall planting. ![]() |

| I'll have to test out February this year, then. Out of all your spinaches, which do you think seems to be the most heat tolerant and hardy? Do you still give them full sun, partial? Thanks! |

| full sun. Skookum performs best overall. Smooth leaf varieties like Correnta, Hellcat are a shade more tolerant of adverse conditions, but not quite as tasty. |
