Firstly, I doubt that a squash plant would grow well in one of those. They seem kind of small to me, in terms of container size. Squash need a large container if they are going to do well.

Secondly, it wouldn't work well in preventing SVB. The borers are going to find the plant no matter what and having the vine hanging isn't going to help. In fact, it will probably cause an even bigger problem because the vines won't be able to root along the ground. It's best if the vine can root at the nodes so that if the plant does get attacked by SVB, the plant can still keep growing.

As I understand it, squash grow tap roots. Tap roots go gown not side way and not upward. Then, even if it did do ok, the fruits can be too heavy, pulling the plant down.

Even if it would work in that container it still wouldn't prevent the moth from laying her eggs on the plant or the larvae from hatching.

Plus it would have to be a @#%@# big topsy turvey container for a squash plant. :)
