Hi - I just have a quick question and I hope this is the right forum. How do you keep the hammer part of a sledgehammer from flying off? I've tried soaking it for a long time in water to swell the wood but I still have to stop occasionally to tap the handle on the floor to resettle the hammer. I hope someone can help. Thanks, Colleen

Hi,

A steel wedge (or two) should be driven into the end of the shaft to expand it and hold the head on. The link on repairing a hammer handle includes driving the wedges to secure it.

Here is a link that might be useful: hammer fix instructions

Stevereno - Thanks for the link. Now I know how to stop the hammer from flying. I appreciate your quick response.
