| If you don't mind a little constructive criticism I would offer the following. First you have very nice property. Now for the criticism: When I look at you house I see all the plantings huddled very close to the foundation. The corner shubs are a bit overgrown and too close. The stone walls further constrict everything to a tight border. The plantings look like they are squeezed into a minimum space to allow for maximum lawn space (very nice lawn, by the way) Outside of this fortress there is one lone tree which is enclosed in another fortress like enclosure of stone. I would start at the left of the house as shown and bring bring a bed curving out along the front of the tree curve back slightly and then out along the drive to the street. Edge the bed, you really have plenty of stone with the house. Now I would plant a nice big (not big enough to block the windows) flowering bush in the middle. Liberate the plantings huddled against the house. Plant some shrub roses along the drive, maybe a smaller tree at the corner of the drive and house (Japanese Maple good for your zone?) and you now have a large area to add plantings. Once again, your house is beautiful. Your lawn is great, but it dominates the landscape. Lawns should be pathways around to see the plantings. Preserve large areas for play in the back. In my opinion you are squeezing all your plantings into confined spaces and walling them in with stone which gives an artificial appearance especially the tree. I know this wasn't the question, but I think this would enhance your landscaping immensely. Placing a trellis against the house and squeezing more plantings in is not going to do your house justice, it will accentuate a flaw, IMHO. Liberate yourself, you will love the results. Double your money back if my advice doesn't work. |
