Need Ideas with Landscaping

Hi - I have this great area that receieves moderate sun under the shade of a large maple, and has a tendancy to fill half way during heavy rains.
It has been overun with creeping ivy for years before we moved in, and now is a haven for weeds as well.
I'm working on a drainage system for the water issue, but am drawing a blank on what to do with it. Any ideas would be welcome. Is is also on a slight incline.
