If power or phone lines are nearby, I'd check with the utility to find out if they have the right to prune your plants, and under what circumstances they can do so (height, distance to lines, etc.).

Thanks for the reply. I know for a fact that our power provider has the right, as they've done so in the past (me and neighbors). They seem to clear-out about 3 to 5 feet of space from their lines...

Those were for trees such as oak though. The Italian Cypress grows in a very tight column typically. I believe that I could plant one or two more and still be that 3 to 5 feet away...

But, in heavy winds, I'm curious how much they would sway though. I imagine that these tops would move a fair amount, but I'm not sure...

So, I planted the nearest Italian Cypress about 12' away from the telephone / utility pole. I needed to go that far away due to the overhead lines...

I'd still like to have some plant between this pole and the first Italian Cypress, as seen in the first few seconds of this video (link below). Width is about 3 feet though (hoping not to prune, thus my choice of Italian Cypress)...

Any ideas? Something with some color would be nice.
