For fast you need a fence. For evergreen trees (or shrubs - you don't say what amount of height you want) in a cold climate you are talking mostly coniferous evergreens like arborvitae, juniper or yew. Speedy growth is not usually a part of what these offer.

In suitable climates with suitable exposures the classic quality hedges are yew, holly and box. These are all dense and dignified but take many years to develop.

First thanks for the reply. A fence is out of the question, so that is why I am looking for some trees. I'm looking for some nice height(eventually). I am narrowing it down to "green Giant" arborvitaes? Any thoughts? Thanks!

"Nice" does not indicate an amount, of course. How many feet are you thinking of? 'Green Giant' becomes a full height tree in time, perhaps 60' or more.

Bboy, sorry for the vagueness. Basically what i am looking for is a tree that will provide privacy from my neighbors. I would like them to be as dense as possible providing as much privacy. As far as height, I'm not really concerned because because it's such an open space. Also, if necessary, I will trim down as needed. Once again, thanks!
