Who is going to check a "drainage forum"? I sure sure won't be lurking. The best thing about discussing it in this forum is that people who would never think about it may learn something before making a mistake.

I am in complete agreement with laag.

I won't check it either... But it's a fascinating and important topic worthy of its own forum! There are lots of geotechnical forums on the interntet, and maybe GW can expand their readership by using this forum to draw in those folks here. Every great idea and innovation meets with skepticism and doubt at first.

But Laag makes a valid point in that the professional landscape architects/designers/contractors that post and answer questions on this forum are much more likely to answer questions about drainage on this existing forum, than to pursue this topic on a forum specializing in drainage. This site just doesn't have the traffic and volume of users to sustain topics that are too specific. I'm kind of surprised that since Spike left/new ownership of site took over, there hasn't been more pruning of rarely busy forums, many don't ever get answers to postings, or the most current answered topics are from 2 to 5 years ago.

I had a feeling that Rhodium's suggestion was made tongue in cheek.

Drainage is an important part of landscape design, and more critical than plant selection or color, which are typical forum questions. After the lawn, installing a surface french drain to keep my rear stairway landing dry was my first outdoor project when I got the house. It's like the zeroth law of thermodynamics, so fundamental that it's forgotten and not recorded until the other three have been penned.
