Hello, I am doing a DIY project installing synthetic grass for a small area under 125 sq ft. The old grass is removed to the 3-4" depth. Most of the online instructions recommend using crushed stone, Road Base, Decomposed Granite, or Chat as a base. I visited Home Depot and Lowes in my area but couldn't find decomposed granite or crushed rock. Home Depot staff suggested that I can use multipurpose Patio/Paver base ($3.55 per bag of 0.5 cu ft). Any suggestions? ( I don't have a truck so I guess I would prefer buying bags from HD/Lowes etc. ) Thanks in advance.

It should be perfectly fine.

I just did a quick calculation that for 3" over 125 sf it works out to be a little over a yard. You should call different stone yards and see if they deliver, you could probably save a bundle.

We DIYd synthetic turf last year. I had it delivered from a stone yard. Delivery was relatively inexpensive and worth not having to hassle with hauling it all. I remember I asked for decomposed granite and they had no idea what I was talking about. Unfortunately I don't remember what it was but we eventually figured out what they referred to it as. Good luck. We love ours but boy was it a lot of hard labor getting the prep done.

If you can find a stone or gravel yard nearby, you'll save a lot of money having it delivered. I don't know how much you need, but the going rate in my area is about $50 for delivery. After visiting several places, I found one place that does free deliveries if ordering even just a few tons of gravel. The proper term in our area is "crusher run" (mixed stone and crushed stone powder left over from cutting and crushing granite).

What you are describing is what they call breeze around my neck of the woods. I've also heard it termed "crusher fines".
